Because the Red Sox don't care about payroll, it's a nice signing.
If the Red Sox had all the money in the world, Why wouldn't they be pursuing beltran and get rid of damon??

Yankees have 50,000+ every night while the Sox get 35,000 every night. Revenues are bigger in the NYC.

Sure they have the money to get Beltran but why go after him after Damon had a monster season?

Fielding a team of just all-stars doesn't always work, just ask last years Yankees.

Sorry, but you live in Vancouver and I live in the suburbs of Boston. The Red Sox adminstration keeps adding on to Fenway. Why do you think they are doing this? To raise more money to keep up with the Yankees. The Sox are even trying to build a red sox muesuem outside fenway to get a yearround vacuum for money. Ticket prices have gone up for like the 5th straight season and the amount of money the sox are paying players has stayed stagnant.

PS Sox Management cry poor all the time.

i beleive that most of team's money comes from tv deals. the ticket sales from what i understand just pay off all of the employees of the park itself. i beleive that is why the yankees have so much money. also ticket prices get higher because they are in more demand.

Give me some examples and proof of where the management has cried because the team is poor.

True, a big chunk of change comes from the NESN deal. The Sox will keep raising prices for tix and fans will keep paying, at least for the forseeable future.

$23 to see your favorite team from the bleachers? What's so bad about that? Now $6 for a dixie cup of beer...that is getting to be a bit much.

Nomar's homer off Pedro. Those four words just shouldn't go together. Not even on a day like 6/6/6. ~Bill Simmons

Yes, NESN is one of the ways the team gets their money but the station is owned by UPN 38 (20%) (Actually, I am not sure if they have sold their stake yet), but the Bruins (40%), and the Red Sox (40%) are the main owners of the station. All the revenues do not go directly to the Sox.

From Boston Dirt Dogs with Larry Luchino and Micheal Felger (Boston Globe writer)
MF: Does revenue sharing hurt or help the Red Sox?

LL: Sure the immediate impact is probably detrimental as it diverts revenue from us to other places. But the expectation is that it will be better in long-term. Competitive balance will make the games even more exciting . Competitive games are attractive to fans at the gate and on TV and contribute to escalating growth in players' salaries. We have a system that works well for one team, the New York Yankees. They have a chance to win, add payroll, and make money at the end. The other 29 teams are in a different category because of the differences in the markets.

For Full article click here http://bostondirtdogs.com/2002_a/lar..._WEEI_8.15.htm

If you read that excerpt you see the Red Sox management is crying poor in saying the Yankees are the only one's getting the revenues.
