This is a great great deal. As bad as the Sexson deal is, this is that good.

Haven't had a talent like this since Arod.

        Way to go Bavasi.

The official deal is worth $64 million. This coming one day after signing Richie Sexson to a $50 million dollar contract. The Mariners needed to upgrade their offense-no question about that, but they have spent $114 million dollars so far and have not addressed their pitching problems yet.

I think it safe to say the signing of Beltre takes the Mariners out of the running for Carlos Delgado. That leaves the Red Sox, Mets and Orioles as the main contenders to sign him. But don't be surprised if the Dodgers get in on Delgado, in one day the Dodgers lost out on Beltre and Tim Hudson. With the moves the Giants and Diamondbacks have made the Dodgers need to do something big.

If the Dodgers won't spend 64 million over 5 years for Beltre, what makes you think they'll spend 64 million over 4 years to delgado...which is what he is asking for?

WOO HOO! This is more great news. It looks like the M's really mean business.
