re: 2018-2019 Hot Stove Thread
Oh trust me, the man might need a security escort the first time his new team goes to town. I WILL watch that first game even if it means I have to use shady means to do so.
It's going to be a frightening experience IMO. The first real "rowdy Philly fans" moment in Citizens Bank Park history IMO.
BTW I was listening to an interview with Bob Nightengale and he brought up a point i've been hinting at on here lately. This could be the contract negotiations that spell the end of the Era of Boras as THE premier baseball agent. If he can't get Bryce a long term deal with the highest AAV it's going to be extremely embarrassing to him. This is as much a legacy play for Boras as it is for Harper. Remember, it was a couple years ago that Boras was proclaiming that Harper would easily get 400 mil over 10 years. Now he's being squeezed into a box with teams trying to go short term on 3 years 100 mil (which is a rumor I've heard about the Dodgers' latest offer) That would give Harper the AAV but certainly not the term.
In a lot of ways Boras' tactics have become obsolete and many of the things he brought to negotiations that helped get his clients big money deals was the introduction of the SABR/analytical stats. Now he's been caught up and outflanked as the entirety of MLB uses those analytics to a large degree and scale that has actually HURT not only his clients but most players in baseball right now.
