David Eckstein is a St. Louis Cardinal!

I'm looking for a link but for now its been reported on KMOX and one of the St.Louis Post Dispatch writers confirmed it.

    3 year deal, cash unknown

Eck will be SS for now (but if they get a better SS he'll go to 2B)

    Eck will hit leadoff.

        Eckstein....Renteria...Eckstein...Renteria...

Well, Eckstein will probably hit, .280, .350 OBP, hit a handful of homers, score 100 runs, and steal 20 bases, as well as provide decent defense in the middle of the infield.

But, he is a downgrade to Renteria in just about every single aspect of the game.

I'm not going to argue that, it sucks to lose Edgar, but Eckstein was the best SS available left on the market, hes no Edgar Renteria, but hes a lot cheaper (I'm thinking the Cards didn't offer him around 10 mil per).

Oh, without a doubt, it sucks to lose someone as good as Edgar. With that said, I actually like this move for the Cardinals, I think Eckstein will fit in very well, and like you said, they didn't have many options.

Plus, this offense was amazing last year and that was without Walker for a full season. It shouldn't miss much of a beat with David in the lineup.

Yeah as long as they stay healthy they should be fine, Eckstein has a higher career OBP than Womack so hopefully he'll be able to get on for the big bats.

I agree, he could be a good spark at the top of the order, that is if he stays healthy, he has missed like 60 games the last two seasons.

                            10.25 over 3 years = 3.4 mil a year

I guess with the way contracts are being signed thats what the market dictated for him.

I'm hoping he plays 2B for us due to his throwing questions, but I'll be fine with it if he is our SS.
