That's a lot of money and a lot of years for a 32 year old catcher, but, if they wanted to sign him without giving him a no trade clause they had to pay up somewhere. I believe 4 for 40 is what Boras wanted, correct? -

Hey guess what. They really did name Tek team captain. On chanel 7 at like 11:00 today they announced that they signed him and Theo gave Tek his jersey with a "C" above boston and he said that Tek is know Captain if this team.Comment

Matt Clement and Wade Miller will be better pitchers by season's end thanks to Jason Varitek.Comment

Glad to see the heart and soul of the Sox is back.
But Tek's deal is way too long. He's going to be getting 9 mil at age 36.
He's at the age where his performance should be on the decline.
But the Red Sox have owners that are willing to spend like there's no tommorow so I'm sure the contract isn't a big problem!Comment
