I know those weren't homegrown but some of the others were and the ones you listed, weren't getting paid 25 Million a year. Sorry if I never specified.

I'm a Yankees fan, but I am sickened by what's going on. It's hard to root for them.

Was Brosius or Tino EVER paid the money those guys are getting now. Hardly so my point is made. Payroll now is twice what it used to be.

And if you re-read my post, you will see it says, I'd rather it be homegrown. Then I listed players that used to be on the roster, I never said they were homegrown.

The Cardinals? Sure they added Mulder to their rotation, but they lost their middle infield, and now have Bo Hart and David Eckstein. Sure they'll be fan favorites being the scrappiest middle infield, but in no way are they going to get the job done, defensively and/or offensively.

People will always like having homegrown players come up through the ranks and make the, because they will have a certain bond with them because they followed them since the day they were drafted, maybe went and saw their games, hoping that they'd make the team and become the next superstar. The thing about free agents is, unless they've been there for more then 3 or so years, you don't have that same bond, as they are essentially mercenaries who make lots of money to hit lots of homer or get 20+ wins for your team, instead of some young kid making the league minimum but performing like a superstar who've you watched play since he was 18.
