    Re: Most Improved Team?

I hate to say it, but the Red Sox are actually looking better. Jay Payton will kick butt in Boston, Edgar Renteria is a step up from Cabrera, and this is not a bad pitching rotation:

    Curt Schilling
    Wade Miller
    Tim Wakefield
    Matt Clement
    David Wells

With Arroyo, Halama, and even Malaska just waiting fora chance to start, they're looking great right now, even without Pedro. The Mets seem to be the best kind of team for Pedro, since they'll let him do whatever he wants and stay out as long as he wants. They've got a Pitching squad that will give up around an average of 3-4 runs a game, but a team of players that will score an average of 8-9 runs.

Seattle should be improved with the acquisition of some big bats. It'll be tough for them to win the division tho as they still didn't really addressed their pitching needs.

I also have a feeling that Milwaukee will surprise a lot of people in '05.

It's not going to be Arroyo moving to the bullpen once Schilling gets back, it will most likely be Wakefield, unless Arroyo blows it big time in April. I really hope to never see Malaska starting, as it probably means every other pitcher has torn a ligament in their arms and that the Red Sox are now basically a Triple-A team. I don't think any team has really improved that significantly, some have taken a few steps forward, while others have taken a few steps backward, so its hard to say.

I'm just saying, if all else fails, Malaska isn't exactly the worst thing to happen to a team. I have faith in Arroyo also, but I was just pointing out that they have 3 pitchers who can start to fall back on. That's PREPARED.

                    Re: Most Improved Team?

I don't know that the Red Sox are more improved compared to last years team, but they have definately built upon last years success.

I think the Giants have improved, they are stronger up the middle with Mike Matheny Catching and Omar Vizquel at SS, they have an actual Closer with Armanado Benitez, they got the right-handed power bat they needed in Moises Alou and the starting staff should benefit by having Matheny behind the plate. Matheny can also help with the developing of some of the young Pitchers like Jerome Williams, Noah Lowery, Jesse Foppert, Merkin Valdez and others.
The Giants should be the best team in the N.L. West next year.

I'd agree with what you said about the Giants, the only other team I saw improve themselves were the D-Backs. After that the others teams just got worse to a certain degree (with the Padres and Rockies getting even worse).

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Giants win the division, the Dodgers and D-Backs challenge them, and the Padres and Rockies fighting for last place (as usual).
