What distance netting would be required to cover enough seats up to a safe enough distance from home plate? I heard one say foul pole to foul pole.

Re: 5/13 - 5/27 Game Discussion Thread
Went to that game with the work crew and they wanted to leave early so I had to because I didn't drive.
Would you look at that, the Dodgers came back and won 9-8. Sure glad we left when it was 8-4 even though I told them directly that it's a good chance the Mets blow it because their bullpen is shoddy right now and the Dodgers are super good but hey whatever.Comment

@Matrix (&others)
There was some staunch defence to not introduce netting down the foul lines and I get why...but this a prime example of why MLB needs to make it mandatory. This little girl had no choice of her situation other than wanting to watch the game.

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Re: 5/13 - 5/27 Game Discussion Thread
I don't know what defense there is to not having the extended netting. There is enough money in baseball to fund it for all 30 teams, the argument about distorted viewing is pure BS because if netting interfered so much with the viewing of the game, prices for seats behind homeplate wouldn't be what they are, and there is absolutely a need for this.
Look, players today are bigger and stronger and the fields are smaller, thus the fans are closer to the action. You've already had a fan at a Dodgers game die from getting hit with a foul ball. We had this little girl get struck. I understand the call to pay attention, yada..yada..yada...but if a ball is lined off a bat like Almora's and is flying into the stands and you're 4 rows back, the chances of seeing the ball and reacting fast enough are slim.
When I take my son to Louisville Bats games (AAA baseball) we always...always...always sit in the upper deck so my concern level is as little as possible. Would I love to have him in the lower section interacting with the players..absolutely. But until they extend the netting for minor league games, that won't be happening until he gets older (he's 3). I know in the upper deck of this small park we can still get line drives up our way, and we do, but I have more time to recognize the ball, flight pattern and protect him.
Nobody...nobody...nobody wants what happened to this little girl to happen at the park. And for damn sure, nobody wants a worse outcome than what happened last night.
Please...please...please...let's be proactive for once and not reactive.Last edited by countryboy; 05-30-2019, 07:07 PM.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
