Jay fan should throw in the towel........

because the season is already over before it started.

Jeff Blair is reporting the Jays are likely to trade for Hillenbrand

I will cringe if 1B/DH is occupied by Hinske/Hillenbrand. That combo would be the worst in the AL in terms of providing offense from those 2 power positions.

The worst part is that the Jays have money to spend but the FA market has dried up. Up to this point, the Jays have only added Koskie and John McDonald (who the Tribe were going to send to the minors) while losing Delgado. The Jays couldn't even score runs with Delgado last year. Adding Koskie and Hillenbrand doesn't give me hope things are going to improve. The Jays still don't have a closer and BB Batista is still on the team.

What gets me more upset is the recent comments by JP the past few months. This guy is starting to piss me off with his excuses. When he first took the job he told ownership he could win on a small budget much like the A's. When he was hired he had a 5 year plan and late last season he said he never mentioned a 5 year plan and it could be 6 or 7 years. And then this off-season for the first time since he's been GM he played the "players don't want to come to Canada" card. He said players will ask goofy questions about Canada like customs and taxes. He says for some players, they really view Canada as some foreign country. And then he said the Jays would have to overpay FA's to come here unless they're are willing to give some kind of discount like Koskie did.

This off-season was JP's dream when he first took over. He knew he would finally have money to spend once Delgado's contract was off the books. Up to this off-season, all he would talk about is how the Jays are handcuffed by his contract. And he's got Koskie and McDonald to show for it. I'm sick to my stomach.

Wow looks like one of my wishes in having Hillenbrand may happen.

I agree with you on JP to a certain extent. The Jays have had a good history of signing big name players but they haven't been winning lately so it's harder to get those big names. JP is just being a baby by crying about how big stars don't want to come to TO when Delgado would've come back for the right price. So that complaint doesn't hold much water to me.

I still think we should give the team the benefit of the doubt. They scored tons of runs in '03. I know some of that may be career years but let's give these guys a chance before you start throwing in the towel.

As a Blue Jays fan i'll never throw in the towel tho I will complain when the complaints are warranted.

Well of course I'll still watch the trainwreck but it's going to be frustrating.

I also didn't like the way the Delgado situation unfolded. Why did the Jays even bother offering Delgado a 12mil/2 year deal. I can't believe Godfrey actually thought that was a competitive offer in the current marketplace. I don't blame Delgado's agent as viewing that offer as an insult. Why not just go a step further and offer Delgado a 1mil/1yr contract. It's pretty clear the front office leaked out Delgado didn't waive his no trade clause before the trade deadline so they could make him look like the bad guy. His agent blasted JP for that in the media.

The Jays put up a ton of runs in 03 because Wells/Phelps/Delgado/Myers all put up career years. The chances of 4 players (especially the season of Wells and Delgado) putting up career years the same season is extremely slim. And don't forget that year Doc won the CY and the Jays were still nowhere near the wildcard. This off-season has been terrible and I don't know how the Jays marketing department will try to sell season tickets to the average fan. Last year there ad was "watch these young guys play", I have no idea what they will come up with now.

Well, it's pretty obvious that JP doesn't think Delgado is a star anymore.

Nah Delgado is still a star it's just that it seems that JP didn't like Carlos from the start. JP wants to build this team to be like Oakland and it's going to take far longer then 5 yrs. It takes a long time to change the culture of the scouting and the minor league system.
