Just seems weird if the OF is down and out, barely moving on the ground, and runners just continue running like normal. It's not like the OF just rolled his ankle or something.

I know in other sports if something happens, they usually stop play if it looks severe.

It happened to ichiro vs the indians a while back. He ran full sprint into the wall, legit thought this dude was going to the hospital after the play eventually ended, but the game continuted on until seattle took control of the situation.

For what it’s worth, I did a play index search on Baseball Reference for any 6 hit (or more) game that included 4 or more doubles and it said none exist since 1908. I think the issue is there are no records before 1908 to indicate if it happened, thus the caveat.

I would've thought if a rule existed, it'd be to count it as a ground rule double or something. Or runners just advance 2 bases from wherever they are at the moment the guy went down. Like I said, it's a difference between going head first into the wall and rolling your ankle.

Yeah, I honestly hadn't seen the play yet. My point though was if the ball hits the ground and you stay on the ground, the runner shouldn't be halted in a case like that.

It does always make you wonder where courtesy lies with comebackers to the pitcher, though. Like, if I hit a ball that knocked a pitcher out could (and for all I knew potentially killed him), I would surrender my 90-foot dash to first base to go check on him immediately. Perhaps if the ball was also so obviously deflected somewhere as to my hit giving me first base, maybe they very well would do just that if they called time out as soon as I went out there.

And again, I haven't seen the particular play you're referring to yet. Maybe at some point it's warranted, but as a general rule the ball will remain live. Just like if a runner breaks his leg between bags, we won't just give him his last bag safely and he can [and will] be tagged out.

He didn't have the four doubles, but this reminded me that Willie Harris once had a six-hit game for the Braves. I have no idea why I remember that.

He's played IF, OF, C, DH and pitcher.

I wonder which player has played the most positions in their career, specifically those who also pitched at least once

I think there was a player who was gifted to play each position, one per inning, in a single ballgame.

Was it a White Sox guy? Mets? Am I making this up?

EDIT: Turns our several players have actually done it recently. See Romine, Sheldon, and Halter.

No, Ferrell played for a bunch of teams in one day.

I'm talking about all nine positions in one game.

George Springer has tied George Springer for most lead-off home runs in a season in Astros history.

And Chris Sale is now the fastest pitcher ever to 2000 strikeouts. Did it in 85.2 fewer innings than 2002 Pedro.
