Unlike all the fans who were fighting over the homerun balls from Bonds, this is something that Doug actually worked for and took part in. A lot unlike the fans who just happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch one of the homers. But, on the flipside of that, where as Barry was the only one working on his homer mark, Doug wasn't the only one who was working to win the Series for Boston. That's the main thing that irks me about the situation. He's being selfish with something that twenty-four other Red Sox busted their balls for just like he did. This is something that he should send to Cooperstown so that he and his teammates, along with the all the members of RSN, can be honored. The ball itself may belong to him now, but what it symbolizes represents an entire region.

Re: Didnt see this coming....
Am I the only one who doesn't see the historical significance in the ball that created the last out?
Really, it's just the last out. One out of 27 in the entire game. You can take any ball from that game and I bet everyone still admires it for being a part of the Red Sox first Championship since 1918."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Re: Didnt see this coming....
Mientkiewicz is a Grade A jackass for doing this. I know he made some comments about the ball being able to pay off one of kids college education. I betcha he said that with a smarky look on his grill.
Dear Theo,
Trade this jackass asap. He doesn't deserve to wear the Red Sox uni after this stunt
Sincerely,
