Marlins after Delgado
Multiple baseball sources report that the Marlins have offered Delgado a one-year contract believed to be at least $10 million US. A portion of the money is backloaded, similar to the one-year, $10 million contract that catcher Ivan Rodriguez signed in 2003.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: Marlins after Delgado
I think he may sign with the Marlins. The Orioles have not wowed him with any real offer and the Mets have spent most of the last week focusing on Carlos Beltran. The Marlins need to act quickley and get this wrapped up because if the Mets lose out on Beltran in the next 4+ hours (the Astros deadline), they make take the Beltran money and waive it at Delgado.
I think Delgado would thrive in Florida, he would get to hit between Mike Lowell and Miguel Cabrera, and with Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo there would always be someone on base for him to drive in.
I would like to see this happen.Comment

Re: Marlins after Delgado
If Florida wants him, they have to go more than 1 year, and more than 10 million. Why would Delgado, who is 32, take a 1 year deal worth the same amount per year that the Orioles and Mets have already offered (reports have both New York and Baltimore offering 3/30).
Come on, IF Florida ups their offer, then maybe. But he is going to the highest bidder, he has already made that known publicly.Comment

Re: Marlins after Delgado
I can't believe that Delgado would be willing to accept a $10/1 deal right now considering his career, his 2003 season, and his second half of 2004 performance. The guy will decline over the course of whatever multiyear contract he signs but he does deserve to get more money from somebody. The Mets love to spend their money foolishly, why haven't they been all over this guy yet?Comment

Re: Marlins after Delgado
As long as Delgado goes to the NL I'll be fine.
I wish him the best of luck and I'm ashamed of the way Jays management treated him.Comment

Re: Marlins after Delgado
From Rotoworld:
Carlos Delgado - 1B - Blue Jays
The Marlins' offer to Carlos Delgado is worth more than $30 million for three years.
That shouldn't be enough. After the Carlos Beltran matter is decided, some team should step up with a four-year proposal to Delgado worth $12 million-$13 million per season. Jan. 8 - 1:55 pm et
