I dont remember if they are good . I know they blew it last year. The division is really strong and probably replaces the NL Central as the best division. I love Floridas starting pitching and Atlanta is Atlanta. It should be fun. I just checked Phillys roster and if that is their starting pitching then they are done. We'll see.

Marlon Byrd has just played inconsistently over the last 2 years. He has been a bust so far, but they have to give him another shot. I really want to see him do well.

ps- they traded Felix Rodriguez to get Lofton.. getting rid of some bullpen help is not a good thing..

The Mets starting rotation is, probably the best they have had in years, the bullpen is another issue... . The lineup will only be good if the young guys like Wright and Reyes play up to their potential, Kaz Matsui has to be better than he showed last year, Mike Piazza and Cliff Floyd are declining and because of that i don't know how much of a difference Beltran will make. There will be enormous pressure on Willie Randolph to make this team win NOW. A big key to how good the Mets will be is how they play against the Braves, if they can't beat the Braves then they won't go very far.

Also, you should be able to scratch Jason Phillips out of the 1B spot in the Mets lineup, while i don't think they will sign Carlos Delgado (not after giving Beltran $119 mil, and an 11 million signing bonus), i do think they will sign or trade for a 1B (John Olerud, Doug Mientkiewicz). After trading Vance Wilson Phillips should be the backup Catcher.

                      What a bullpen..
" I look at him and it's getting to the point where it's just scaring me. He looks younger but he doesn't carry himself in a younger manner. He's impressive, and I'm glad we drafted him. "

Re: The Mets: How Good Will This Team Be?

I think the NL East will come down to the Braves and Mets, just like old times. I gotta give the edge to the Braves (history + bias), even though the Mets have improved substantially. They had a lot of ground to make up.

I see the Mets winning around 84-88 games and contending for the Wild Card. With a little luck they could steal the division away.

I'm not really concerned about the Phillies. Sure, they have some talent. And if they performed up to their potential, they could contend. But I gotta see it before I believe it.

And the Marlins.... solid, but once again I don't see them challenging for anything more than a Wild Card.

If the mets could land a big time stopper for the pen, I'd feel a ton better. Won't jinx them before they even get to camp, but I feel good about the season ahead. I hope for a great race between the Braves, Phils, Marlins, and the Mets.
