    Blockbuster signing by the Jays!!!

Stay updated with Major League Baseball scores, Blue Jays news, Standings & insights for Canadian fans. Live on TSN.

Scott Schoeneweis is joining the Jays after signing a 5.25mil/2yr deal. I just got off the phone with Cashman and Espstein and they told me the Jays are now the team to beat in the AL East.

After all isn't a great move to hand over that size of a contract to a pitcher that's coming off of a season where he had an ERA of 5.59. And this coming from a team where the GM always says he has to spend his money wisely.

I wonder if JP was asleep when Chris Hammonds signed a one year deal for less than $800,000 last week.

Actually I think this MIGHT be a good signing tho I don't really like the amount of money that was thrown around. Shoeneweis' best years were as a reliever and the Jays will be putting him in the bullpen. He could be that lefty that we've needed for some time now.

I feel like JP is hoping for some reverse karma.

Last year he signed Ligtenberg and Speier after a good season, and now he signed Koch and Schoeneweis after bad one's.

If he needed a lefty he should have signed Chris Hammonds who is a better pitcher and is also way cheaper. I don't understand the logic of this signing. I wouldn't have given him anything more than a 1 year 1 million dollar offer. Looks like he had to vastly overpay to get him to come to Toronto. And I assume JP had to find some way to fill up the budget. I personally would have given Scott Downs the chance at min. wage and then if O-Dog continues to produce next season use some of your left over money to lock him up long term.

Well I'm awaiting any hour for the Hillenbrand trade to be announced so it looks like this hyped off-season (JP has always said he was handcuffed by Delgado taking up 40% of the payroll and was limited in roster moves because of it) has produced this at the big league level:

                Lost:
                Carlos Delgado, Kevin Cash

                Gained:
Corey Koskie, Shea Hillenbrand, Billy Koch, Scott Schoeneweis, John McDonald

                In terms of prospects:

                Lost:
Adam Peterson (B level prospect who was suppose to be the future closer until he blew up last season after the Jays foolishly promoted him from AA)

                Gained:
                Chad Gaudin

I feel sorry for the Jays marketing people. They already used the watch these young guys play last year, I wonder what they have for this coming season.

Schoeny wasn't bad for us as a starter last year until he got hurt.

The new Jays are starting to grow on me, I wasn't much of a Delgado fan and I like how we have gained Shea and Koskie.

How is the combo of Hinske/Hillenbrand/Koskie going to work out. Who is going to play where? That is three 3rd basemen.
