    Mets and Delgado Thread

How do we think this will go, you guys think the mets will sign delgado or has our luck run out? I dont know why but I feel that we will be getting both delgado and sosa before the season starts.

    Re: Mets and Delgado Thread

I think Delgado is interested in NY and is waiting for the meeting with the Mets, which should go down this week. If the Mets are close to his other offers, I think that he will be intrigued with the prospect of playing with a core of Beltran, Martinez, Piazza, Glavine, and Floyd(Or Sosa). I say they have a good shot. I read that the Rangers may drop out. If the Mets could not afford Delgado, I think that they would have looked elsewhere already. I think the biggest decision for Carlos Del. is whether or not he wants to come to the NL.

Listening to Gammons tonight, he seems to think that acquiring Mientkiewicz and or Kim from Boston would sure up 1st and add another arm to the bullpen. Then, if Floyd for Sosa is close to the same money depending on how much the Cubs offer, they could make it happen. I think Mientkiewicz can make Wright and Reyes that much better, and Delgado at 1st for 4 years is a bit of a gamble...but we know Minaya's got a pair, so we'll see!

im hoping that he doesnt caare about al/nl, it really doesnt affect him that much, the thing with this guy is that noone knows what he is looking for, does he want to play for a contender? is it location? money? he doesnt really seem to WANT to play anywhere so i was surprised whe n i heard he was interested in the Mets, bottom line is that he is a good player, and hell be a good snag for the mets and getting him is another step closer to knocking off the braves.

Amazing defender at first with range that's unmatched and a great glove to pick and save errors. As far as his bat, very lackluster. He's a career .272 hitter who makes good contact but lacks any pop, especially for his position. In 2001, he hit .306 with 15 HRs and 74 RBIs but has never really proven that he can replicate or surpass those numbers. Rough season with minimal at bats in between Minnesota and Boston last year.

My feeling is that an NL team can't afford to sacrifice a big bat at the corners because of the pitcher hitting, so it would be a bit of a surprise. The man will sure up any infield, but he'd be hitting 8th on that team.

not to bad mouth anyone, but why would i want a 1bman who did not originally want to come to NY in the first place? it was only after Beltran was signed that he changed his tune.. i would rather go with a defensive 1b & some bullpen help as well.

but according to a Texas newspaper, the Rangers apparently expect Delgado to sign w/ the Mets for between 14-15 mil a year...
