    Brett Boone..

Ever since the topic of steroids has become prevalent in baseball today, I've looked at many of the players around the league with an air of suspicion. One of those players that has seemingly slipped under the radar is Brett Boone...but come to think of it, he may be as likely a candidate to be on 'roids as any other. Lets take a look at the "evidence":

1.) Prior to Boone's arrival in Seattle, his career highs in home runs and RBIs were 24 and 95 respectivly, both in 1998. His second best totals were 20 HRs (in 1998) and 74 RBIs (in 2000).

2.) The season before Boone came to Seattle, he had 19 HRs and 74 RBIs in 127 games. In a full season, that would put him around his career highs, probably in the 25 HR and 100 RBI range. Good numbers, yes, but not spectacular. I havent been able to track down why he was only in about 130 games, but I'd assume that it was most likely an injury rather than a platoon situation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

3.) The first season with his new club, the Mariners, he manages to hit 37 HR and drive in 141 RBIs. Seems like quite a large jump from a guy who diddint even play a full season a year ago, right?

4.) Last year, a year in which the MLB was starting to come under serious fire because of steriods, Boone's numbers drop to 24 HRs and 83 RBIs. That very same season, Brett Boone has minor hip injuries. Coincidentally, when players get off 'roids, they tend to get hurt.

5.) Boone was never known for his power stroke, nor his size, but since his early days in the MLB (and especially since his time with the M's) he has grown a tad larger. While now he's listed at 5'10 and 190 Lbs, those estimates are usually quite conservative.

Yes, I know, it's all circumstantial evidence, and probably a long shot, but it's a theory thats been brewing in my head for some time. Thoughts?
...bad company 'till the day I die.

Boone also dyed his hair a frosty blond. I don't know why you left that out.

I would be a little upset if he was juiced, because I really like him and his brother.

                Re: Brett Boone..

Boone is actually the one guy I immediately thought of after the whole steroid issue leaked out (right after Giambi and Bonds using of the drug was made official).

The guy got huge in one offseason and started belting homeruns left and right in a pitcher's park. Then, all of a sudden he falls back to earth with the steroid allegations rising.

Another player I've also considered is Carlos Beltran. I like the kid, but I just wonder.

Keep in mind I believe in innocence until proven guilty. I always thought that Bonds could be on steroids, but I never punished him for it until I absolutely knew the truth. I'll do the same with Boone and Beltran. And since we'll probably never know, I'll just ignore the possibility and look at what's actually there.

(Oh, and Brady Anderson is another player I wonder about because of that one year - a year he got big as well - and then suddenly he reverted back to true form and lost some of his muscle mass. Could have been creatin, but I still wonder).
"It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

All you had to do is look at Boone's face and shoulders. It's pretty apparent he juiced himself up nicely.

So that's why he launched a couple of LOGE shots at the Q a couple of years ago when he was the Padres.

Same here. When I first saw Boone during 2001 I couldn't believe how big he got. It just seemed odd that a guy who's best HR season was 24 and most RBI's was 95 all of a sudden belts 37 HR's and 141 RBI's in 2001.
