I wonder if the M's organization had any knowledge of what he was doing? Seems like a convenient sign, especially considering the explosion he had in his first season. I like the M's organization, but it's just food for thought....

Originally posted by YankeePride_YPBoone is actually the one guy I immediately thought of after the whole steroid issue leaked out (right after Giambi and Bonds using of the drug was made official).
The guy got huge in one offseason and started belting homeruns left and right in a pitcher's park. Then, all of a sudden he falls back to earth with the steroid allegations rising.
Another player I've also considered is Carlos Beltran. I like the kid, but I just wonder.
Keep in mind I believe in innocence until proven guilty. I always thought that Bonds could be on steroids, but I never punished him for it until I absolutely knew the truth. I'll do the same with Boone and Beltran. And since we'll probably never know, I'll just ignore the possibility and look at what's actually there.
(Oh, and Brady Anderson is another player I wonder about because of that one year - a year he got big as well - and then suddenly he reverted back to true form and lost some of his muscle mass. Could have been creatin, but I still wonder).
Overall I find this thread pretty comical. Everyone feels this obligation to be a private investigator, but overall I get the impression there's nothing but rumor and bias floating around.Comment

Re: Brett Boone..
I'm really not trying to work off of rumor and bias here. Honestly, I can care less either way about Boone or the Mariners as far as my affection for them. I'm a Yankees fan (dont all kill me at once), and really have not animosity towards the player or the team. I've just always thought it was odd how he skyrocketed to such high numbers. Just look at the numbers man, its pretty odd for someone to make such a large jump, especially considering that he was 32 when he made such a jump, not exactly a time when most players explode onto the scene.
As far as Beltran, I don't see him as being on steroids, just look at his body build. He's not a huge bulky guy, he just has natural pop in his bat, and he's been hitting well from a young age. He's got the same stature as Soriano...not a big guy, but one who could hit quite a few bombs....bad company 'till the day I die.Comment

Re: Brett Boone..
This article is a few years old, but it includes some interesting comments from Bret Boone:
Boone, 33, gained 25 pounds before the 2001 season, then had a career-high 37 homers and 141 RBI for the Mariners. His career high in homers had been 24. He denies using steroids, but he didn't condemn them last month during an interview with Playboy.
"Who is to say someone's wrong for doing it?" Boone is quoted as saying. "I don't know if they're good or bad. If you abuse anything, there are going to be effects down the road. If steroids are done in moderation, done correctly and safely, it might be an option."Comment

Wow, I'm not even going to bother with this stupid post."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
