    Re: Mets May Match.....

I'd like to see the Mets match the offer for Delgado.

Granted, it's not my money, but what the hell? If they are going to make the decision to spend big and pull in big name guys, what's a few more million to make it happen?

I like the Beltran signing a lot, and while some argue Pedro is past his prime, I consider Delgado to be a very talented offensive player, and one that would definitely help the Mets this season and for years to come. If it takes a few more mil a year to bring him to the Mets, I say do it, as it seems the Mets are willing to spend big bucks to bring in players, and Delgado's signing would fill out a nice offseason of big name signings.

Seems like the Mets are trying to emulate the other NY team and buy their entire team.

I understand what you're saying, but to get talent at a reasonable speed, it generally comes down to spending the big bucks.

Granted, you can develop guys in the minors, but given the Mets trade of a great prospect last year, it seems you are correct.

I think it's a little ironic (hypocritical?) that Bud Selig gripes about teams overspending on players, when he is one of the two governing bodies able to install a stricter salary cap.. Until he does that, I don't think he can whine too loudly about teams overspending, because on the list of people that can create changes, he is quite high on the list.

If the Mets do indeed match the Rangers' offer, it'd be nothing but bad news for other NL East teams. The Mets would have one of the best lineups in the MLB, on paper at least.

The STILL need someone in the pen though. Delgado is a good signing, and will make that lineup pretty daunting, but they needed pen help before offensive help.
...bad company 'till the day I die.
