Good signing. He's not gonna light the world on fire or anything but he could be solid this year.

Words can't even begin to describe how terrible he was with the M's.

After his monster 2001 season, his OBP has been .305, .325, and .314. His OPS has been .718, .735, and .667
He's a nice pickup for the Reds. I don't think anyone is expecting him to duplicate his 2001 numbers, i think if he is given enough playing time he could easily hit around 15-20 HR's and drive in 60-70 RBI's. I think most Reds fans would be happy with that.
Besides, his numbers from last season improved after he joined the Padres. Like Sportsman said it's a low risk signing, if he doesn't produce they can always let him go.

I'm actually pleased with the Reds' off-season moves this year. Instead of doing what they usually do during the off-season (nothing), they have actually gotten involved in the free-agent market. They re-signed Paul Wilson, Adam Dunn, and Kearns, and picked up Wright, Ortiz, and Aurilia.

They picked up 2 of the positions we need most, shortstop and starting pitching. While I don't think they will make a playoff run this year, I am optimistic that they will finish .500 or better. I really like what O'Brian is doing with this team.

Now all we need to do is trade Griffey for some starting pitching and we'll be set .

They did have a better than usual Reds offseason.

I also agree about Griffey, it breaks my heart because he's my favorite player of all-time, especially since he came to Cincy, but they need pitching and that would make room for Wily Mo Pena. Don't think they're gonna be able to pawn him off on anyone though.

Not without paying a large chunk of his contract, and i doubt Reds ownership would be willing to do that.

I think we are more likely to see Austin Kearns traded to make room for Pena in the OF.

Kearns trade value is at its lowest right now so they will not trade him until he shows he is healthy

You are probably right. The best thing the Reds could do right now is keep Pena as the 4th OF, given Griffey and Kearns history with injury's he would be much better insurance off the bench than say-John Vander Wal or Darren Bragg.
