Re: Is Barry Larkin a HoFer?

Maybe not the best of the 80s in both leagues but in the AL he might've been. Tho I think Ripken and Trammel edge him out slightly.

I also have a soft spot for Tony. It has always intrigued me why he sucked in just about every place he played except for Toronto. My favourite memories of him come way after his prime when he was playing a lot of 3rd base. It was the year he challenged .400 for a good chunk of the year. I also loved how he screamed everytime he got hit by a pitch! :y4:

Definitely. I don't think it even needs an explanation.

I think Larkin gets into the Hall, no doubt about it.

He was the symbol of the Reds for so many years, and did a lot of good things for that organization. Larkin played solid baseball during his whole tenure in the majors, and I think the MLB will reward him.

As another biased Reds fan, I think Barry gets in, but the seasons he had in 1997, 2001, and 2003 may force him to wait 2 or 3 years. As far as defensive shortstops go. No one can argue against Ozzie, but I'll just say this: I saw "Ant" Fernandez make a couple dozen plays that I have yet to see any other SS make, and he made them look effortless.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Could you imagine how scarier those early 90's Blue Jays teams would have been with Roberto Alomar at 2B and Tony Fernandez at SS, nothing would have got thru the Infield!!.

Or what if the Padres had both of them? It can go both ways you know?

Not to add salt to the wounds of Padres fans but if you look at some of the players the Padres traded at the start of the 90's you could field an all star team.

Imagine if they kept some of those players and added some players to go with them, defensively they could have looked like:

                            C Benito Santiago
                            1B Fred McGriff
                            2B Roberto Alomar
                            SS Tony Fernandez
                            3B Carlos Baerga
                            LF John Kruk
                            CF Tony Gwynn
                            RF Joe Carter

They would have had speed, power, contact hitters, strong defense up the middle.
I don't think many teams would have wanted to face that lineup.

Holy Crap! that lineup would score runs like I drink coke (which is a lot btw)

How good was the pitching in that era of Padres baseball?
