Probably the best Catcher in baseball in the last 10-20 years. He's a HOF'er hands down,
No question he'll be in the Hall, but I gotta say, even though he was my idle growing up as a young catcher myself, he's not AS GOOD as I gave him credit a while back defensively. Guys like Mike Matheny are much better and more fundamental at blocking balls, and guys like Varitek take more pride in calling a game and studying opposing hitters. While his arm is unreal, he always got criticism for calling a lot of fastballs with runners on and always showcasing the gun if anyone took a step too many on him. I love the guy and think he is the best catcher of my time (born in '81, and better than Gary Carter who's already there) but just wanted to even out the argument coming from someone who played the position for 10 plus years and really love catchers and watching them in particular when I watch a game.

If you think about the language problems he had though coming up as a rookie, his role as a leader today and as an asset to any pitching staff is pretty remarkable. One of my favorite players to watch even in his elder baseball years.

1st Ballot right now in my opinion, Johnny Bench would be the only catcher I would take over Pudge in his prime

No doubt about it on this one. Now since the concensus is on I-Rod being a HOF'er what do you guys think of the late Thurman Munson. I was looking over his stats and he compares favourably to the top catchers of his era. (Bench and Fisk) In fact he had better offensive numbers then those guys up to the time of his death. Munson was also a great team leader who had the respect of the pitchers and the other position players. I guess most of you guys would say he isn't a HOF guy but I think he's deserving of being a HOF'er.

Of course he belongs in there, his offense was solid, but his defense will get him there. Cannon arm, snap throws, etc... no reason why Pudge can't make it to the HOF.

"Late"...didnt he die in 1979? Actually Fisks career numbers are what did it for him and he spent the majority of his career with Chicago which included a lot of productive years adding to those career numbers.

Yep airplane crash. He was flying his plane and crashed landed as he came in too low.

Rodriguez is a 1st ballot HOFer.

Munson isn't HOF material. He was good, but even the peak numbers just aren't there.
