Videogames can't be counted as reliable either. I think Carl Pavano has only 2 or 3 pitches in MVP 04. And every game gives Pedro Martinez a slider when he probably hasn't thrown one in 10 years.

Re: What do pitchers throw?
You know what, why don't the posters (fans of their team) contribute the pitch repetoires of the pitchers of their team? Since there's no other place why not start one?Comment

Re: What do pitchers throw?
i looked at the scouting reports on espn that chaos said to look at more in depth and it does a pretty good job. i hate when it just says breaking ball or doesnt specify when a pitch has variants.
like it says greg maddux throws a change-up but he doesnt. he throws a circle-change, as does pedro martinez, eric gagne, i think tom glavine.Fight On for ol' SCOur men Fight On to victory.

Re: What do pitchers throw?
Gagne doesn't throw a circle change, he throws what is called a "Vulcan" change. In reality its more of a split-fingered fastball but he calls it a change-up. A lot of pitchers that utilize the change-up though do throw a circle change. There really aren't too many that throw a palm ball or a more conventional change anymore, they probably like the added a movement a circle change usually gets.
As for everyone contributing what the players for each team throws, I think thats a good idea. From the Red Sox last year, I can say what their staff throws:
Pedro Martinez - Fastball, 2 seam fastball, circle change, curveball, cut-fastball
Curt Schilling - fastball, 2-seam fastball (rarely), curveball, slider (rarely), cut-fastball, circle change (very rarely used), splitter
As an aside, Schilling can throw pretty much anything, though his change-up isn't that great. He goes with his scouting report and basically just throws whatever works against a batter.
Derek Lowe- 2-seam fastball, curveball, circle change, cut fastball (rarely used anymore), might have been using a slider towards the end of the season, he's always had kind of a roundhouse curve so it could have just been that
Tim Wakefield - fastball, knuckleball, curveball
Bronson Arroyo - fastball, circle change, curveball, slider
Keith Foulke - fastball, 2-seam fastball, circle change, slider (rarely used)
Mike Timlin - fastball, 2-seam fastball, splitter, slider
Alan Embree - fastball, slider
Scott Williamson - fastball, splitter, slider
Ramiro Mendoza - 2 seamer, curveball, circle change
David McCarty (!) - fastball, slider
Thats probably it for pitchers most people would be interested in from the 2004 Red Sox. I could do a pretty decent job on the rest of the AL East but there are probably fans from each team that could do a better job.Comment
