Yearly subscriptions to MLB TV back in Apple TV

In Australia at least, yearly subscriptions to MLB TV are now back in Apple TV. For the last couple of years, our only option was to subscribe yearly through MLB website or pay the ridiculous monthly fee of nearly $40.

At current exchange rate, a yearly subscription will cost $167 give or take a buck.

If you can get iTunes credit at 15% off then that takes it down to $141 or so. This more than offsets the 2021 MLB TV price increase.

Beats subscribing directly and having to also pay a currency conversion fee on your credit card (if it has one).

I hope this is useful to some of us other than me!

With Sinclair hoarding all of the Fox Sports stations to satellite, MLB TV would be a good option for me...but alas, since I live in the home market of the team I support (Bravos), most, if not all games would be blocked out which is such a stupid decision. Still deciding what I will do this year for baseball.

MLB.tv really needs to address its home market boundary lines. My wife and I are huge Red Sox (me)/Braves (her) fans who live in southeastern NC. According to MLB.tv we are in the Nationals/Orioles home tv market, even though none of the cable/satellite systems offer the stations that cary the Nats or Orioles. So, whenever the Braves play the Nats or the Sox play the O's (home or away), which is a significant amount because they're obviously in each other's division, the game is blacked out on MLB.tv.

A couple of years ago I called and asked if there was anything that could be done and the MLB.tv representative was able to circumvent the automatic home market blackouts for us somehow, but every year since then they say there is nothing they can do.

We've been subscribers for many years now, and to be fair, with the veterans discount, even with the many blackouts, it's a good deal. I just wish they would update their boundary lines to be more realistic.

Local TV blackouts make zero sense especially in 2021. Its not like you can even go to a game these days.

Yes I know we get ripped off here. but I see there is no monthly sub anymore only a year!! I have a friend in New York which can pay it for me and I password share and pay her back so that works and won't be a rip off

I don't have apple tv sub but I got a firestick with the MLB app I had everything ready to go last year and of course never bothered paying for a 60 game season. so this year might finally be worth paying a years worth

have you got a link for this? I might get the apple tv sub finally this might be worth it I can't find the info deal.

I don’t know if it’s gotten better, but years ago I lived in Vegas and the Giants, A’s, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, and Diamondbacks were all considered local teams and blacked out. The blackout logic was horrible

No link as it’s only through the mlb tv app on Apple TV. No other way. They do the monthly one on iOS and iPadOS.

I just happened to check the Apple TV app last night and was super excited yearly was back because it was only monthly when I checked last feb during spring training and when I contact MLB they said the only option for yearly was through their site (must have been divine intervention because that’s the only reason I didn’t subscribe).

It appears that way. What you could do if you really want to do the yearly deal through iTunes credit is buy an Apple TV direct from Apple then sign up in the MLB TV Apple TV app so that you have a subscription, then erase and return the Apple TV to Apple within two weeks. You can then watch on any device including your PS5 and manage your subscription through your Apple account on your phone or computer.

Or subscribe monthly through mlb app on your phone for $35 per month.

yeah I got the app on the firestick and it's $36 a month!! OUCH!! I really would rather just a annual option to save money really annoying their isn't one I hate monthly fees prefer it as getting it done in 1 hit for a year I do that with all subs

the ps5 doesn't even have the mlb tv app anymore too!

8 months x 36 =$288!!! There has to be a cheaper way annually looks like as you said on the website is the way to do it then tgry change you BS GST for an overseas purchase the Gerry Harvey tax.

I got an idea though have a friend in US I can use her address sign up and escape the tax BS

I ended up getting the annual subscription and to avoid the BS Gerry Harvey GST tax I put down a LA address didn't have to pay tax, and I ended up paying $174 Aus which was $129 US for the full season. so I am happy with that. that is 8 months of baseball including spring training.

I will have to use the firestick though because for some reason the MLBTV app is no longer there for play station in the PSstore really annoying and can't find a answer anywhere why it's been removed.

Just thought I would post additional info here for any Aussies. It looks like MLB ignores reasonable exchange rates when purchasing through iTunes and balloons the Aussie subscription cost out to $215 which is an exchange rate of US$0.67 (taking into account GST) for an AU$1.

It’s a ridiculous loading, considering actual exchange rate is presently US$0.79 and has been over 0.75 for at least three months.

So my previous estimate of $162 is way off by over $50.

Any Aussies know what it costs to subscribe through MLB.com? Is it still $215? @ninertravel was that $175 amount through MLB.com? If so, it looks like that’s the cost effective way to go.
