Do you know what 5% body fat looks like?

    Look at his abs.

With 5% or "less than 5" his abs would be defined, instead you cant even see them through that slab of fat on his belly.

I know sports has a very macho culture around it..........

but the thought of Big Mac taking his pants off, and then Canseco coming from behind and sticking a needle into Big Mac's arse is going to give me nightmares.

Re: Nomar named as steroid user by Canseco

I dug up a magazine article from a couple years ago that talks about Nomar's (and other MLB players) off-season schedule. It revolved around a company called "Athletes' Performance". I'll post some of it, in case anyone's interested.

[Mark] Verstegen, who once attended the Air Force Academy and holds a master's degree in exercise physiology, examines newcomers as if they were would-be fighter pilots. Their blood is put through tests and they're measured for flexibility, joint stability and stamina. They're put on nutrition programs that include at least two high-protein shakes a day, along with antioxidants and multivitamins. Daily workouts print from the computer in an intricate matrix of sets, reps and drills....

Verstegen's methods are anything but conventional. Players twist and hurl medicine balls against a concrete wall, strengthening their midsection or "core" that's considered so essential for hitting. They high-step over hurdles, pull sleds with 85 pounds of weights, run through rope ladders and perform pull-ups with 90-pound dumbbells between their legs. Much of the traditional weight work is tweaked so players are building flexibility and stability at the hips.

To stretch hamstrings and calves, players pull on ropes wrapped around their feet. They rotate their bodies over hard foam pads to produce a massaging effect. They perform push-ups with their hands on giant rubber physioballs to add to the degree of difficulty. Cardiovascular work is relatively brief but punishing, geared toward developing the quick bursts of speed necessary in baseball...

Though players gain weight, it's lean mass more than muscle. Garciaparra has put on 35 pounds over the years working with Verstegen, but still looks like a compact traditional infielder. Scouts who saw him at Georgia Tech, where he was a good-glove, no-hit infielder, marvel that he's actually increased his range and quickness at shortstop even as he's gained weight and become more powerful.

"You tell someone you went from 155 pounds to 190 and they can't believe it's possible while maintaining the same flexibility, movement and smoothness," Garciaparra says. "My program is designed specifically for baseball. The weight just kept coming on."...

Garciaparra is so dedicated to the program that he tells his agent not to schedule anything during his training period and makes himself scarce to everyone but family and close friends, all in the name of maximizing his performance.

"It's my time to get mentally and physically ready, with no distractions," Garciaparra says. "It's what I need to carry myself through the season. This way, I know I've done everything I can do to prepare myself."

maybe he was already down in that area and figured he might as well kill two birds with one stone.

That picture of Nomar does not lead me to believe he's used steroids.. at all.

I don't know, maybe I just don't want to believe he's a cheater, but we'll wait and see what comes of this.

Definitely buying this book. Canseco has first hand knowledge of who, and who did not take roids. He was actually in the locker room, and part of the team.

Maybe all the twitching Nomar does at the plate is actually an allergic reaction to steroids ...
