    2021 Spring Training Thread

Usually @TheMatrix31 posts this, but he hasn't posted in months and ST starts today, so I'll get this going.

Jays offense looking good so far. 5-0 in the 4th.

A change to ST which I'd be fine with in future years. Teams have ability to agree on 5,7 or 9 inning game.

Closer to end of ST, option only becomes 7 or 9.

We know teams dont usually play guys for the entire game anyways, especially early on in ST. If they won't eliminate the number of ST games in the future, maybe they simply shorten those games.

Nice to see Trey Mancini come back from colon cancer. Hope he stays healthy from here forward.

I just don't like that they can wake up and say ''hey, let's play 5''. if there's threat of weather that's another thing entirely. I guess their fuzzy math says playing 5 is better than Ernie Banks ''let's play 2''. next year 3 inning games will be on the table

The day of is probably a bit much, but perhaps it could be agreed upon before the schedule comes out to the public? Teams do plan out many things well in advance when it comes to things like this. I'm sure they already have a good idea of who's playing and how often they're playing for the spring.

Julio Rodriguez with the walkoff. 1st of many, I'm sure. Kid reminds me a lot of Juan Soto.

Joey Wendle got hit in the face today during an at-bat.

                  Haven't heard his status.

Since spring training games can be seven innings and managers have the option of calling mercy to an inning after a pitcher throws 20 pitches, I'm quitting work tomorrow at 2 pm. I figure that's the equivalent of seven innings. I don't want to burn myself out when the year has just begun.

But in all seriousness, some workplaces do have a different kinds of schedule. Some don't care when you work, as long as you get your hours in. Want to work 10 hours for 2 days of the week, 8 hours for 2, and then get a half day to end it? Go ahead. That's a dream level of flexibility.

If baseball ever did go to a 7 inning game (not that I want that, but people joked that Manfred would want that), I wonder if that would mean teams shorten their bullpens, or just have starters pitch less?

I’m fine with the reduced innings for early spring training games, but not a fan of the 20 pitch rule. If you’re the 27th guy on the team and trying to make the roster how would you like to come up with the bases loaded only for the opposing manager to say sorry inning over, he’s at 20 pitches

Is the rule the opposing manager or the manager/pitching coach of that pitchers team? If it's the latter, I'd imagine they've talked about it beforehand anyways.

It’s the manager of the pitcher’s team. Also pitchers can re-enter games this spring which I’m not sure how that helps anything

Anyone who does not think this is a trial run for baseball to implement these changes in the regular season at some point, is fooling them selves. Rob Manfred is ruining baseball with each passing year. By far the worst commissioner baseball has had since at least WWII.
