I can’t see that ever happening. If you’re only playing 7 innings then you definitely don’t need 13 man pitching staffs. No way the union agrees to smaller rosters.

Wait.. So Manfred wants to turn the MLB into a Mens Softball Beer League? Seven innings games!! That would be a hard pass from me. I can't see the MLBPA accepting that.

        Re: 2021 Spring Training Thread

Regardless what happens, the 2021 offseason could be one of the most interesting offseasons in MLB history for reasons that have little to do with player transactions.

        The whole CBA stuff
You have the As/Rays stadium situations
The league trying to bounce back from covid
Possible expansion (would the PA say no to creating over 100 new jobs for players, or the owners say no to over 1B in expansion money?)
        Pitch clocks
        Extra inning rule
        Electronic strike zone
        NL DH
        Service time

Among so many other topics. Unpopular or not, these will be talking points in several months from now.

Random observation you might be able to answer...why do all of the games that are about to start begin at 105 eastern but the Blue Jays start at 107

I could get behind pretty much all of these except for the extra innings rule. I’m still on the fence for that one.

                Something with TV network probably?

Which is one thing I hate about sports scheduling. They want games to end earlier, so why not start earlier? Those 7:05 or 7:07 or 8:10 starts are pointless. Just start the game at 7. No point sitting through some 5-10 min long pregame introduction after the pregame show already happened in the 30 mins leading up to the game.

So does that mean Toronto is 2 minutes behind or ahead?

I consulted with google and turns out it’s so that they can play both national anthems. I would have never guessed that

Not like anthems air on TV anyways, why cant that just happen in the pregame, and get the games going shortly after 7 (just have the initial introduction to the broadcast at 7, game starts within a minute or two later, and then they have the rest of the 1st inning to talk about the lineups, starting pitching matchups and all that).

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Yeah, during ST this year pitchers can come back in. Used to be how it was WAY back in the day.

That's where 'reliever' comes from. Walter Johnson would throw 100 pitches, another guy would come in and give him a break, then he would come back and finish the game.

I wonder if that rule existed in modern baseball how (if at all) any team would use it.

Starters for sure wouldn't reenter, but I could see teams having a guy in for an inning out of the bullpen, turning it over to another guy for the next inning, and then going back to the guy who was just in. Maybe those middle relief roles with them pitching 2-3 innings a game could become more common?

It would probably serve as a way to revive the specialist role. Anytime a lefty is up and your pitcher has faced three batters bring in the lefty. You could change how you use your closer too, instead of closing out the game bring him in to pitch out of jams every inning

I bleeping HATE ESPN's coverage of MLB. I know it was a Spring Training game but good lord. They talked about everything besides baseball. They even had a segment that was about some Yankee stuff.. Umm its a Nats/Mets game [emoji2357] Opening Day the Mets are playing on ESPN I will be listen to the radio with the TV muted.
