Re: April 19th thru May 2nd Game Discussion Thread
And it creates the illusion of umpires being even worse at their jobs than they already are, creating more call controversy and resentment among fans, etc.
It's not good. But if you want to praise players for catching a ball and moving a glove at least a foot to "get" a strike call then hey, that's wonderful. This **** should be universally derided.
I prefer the players I'm investing time and energy watching to win or lose games in legitimate ways.Comment

Because it's acting. It's fake. And I'm not watching soccer or basketball. Those are two sports I stopped watching because of the acting changing outcomes of games.

In college, hell in high school, and maybe even upper level little league, catchers were told to move the glove/ball slightly if close to influence a strike call. And as a remedy to this craft, coaches told us with 2 strikes don't leave the outcome in the judgment of the umpire. If its close swing. If nothing else foul it off to see another pitch.
And that is a lost art these days and why this "acting" seems more pronounced because players today aren't scolded for striking out an insane amount of times a year so long as they belt 20, 400ft homeruns per year.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Agreed on the impact of strikeouts that's for sure
Are the balls really deadened or whatever this year?

How do Jays follow up on Vlads 3HR,7RBI night yesterday?
Springer making his Jays debut tonight!
But on the same day, Ryu will be headed to the IL. Jays now have just 2 SP in their rotation!Last edited by Majingir; 04-28-2021, 04:25 PM.Comment

Wow. Muncy is 1 for his last 28. That is some slump.
Hopefully it's permanent regression.Comment

In the Red Sox game, home plate umpire Jerry Lane took a foul tip right to the facemask and was immediately wobbly.
He's out for the rest of the game for concussion protocol, and the umpire crew rotated around to use 3 instead of 4.Boston Red Sox
