Sounds like Jays could be getting Springer, Hernandez and some others back after their next series.

If they could go into that series either a game above or below .500, that's a decent spot to be in despite missing 2 of their top 4 bats and half their pitchers.

I've seen enough. Higgy over Gary. Guy has earned the starting catcher spot.

Kid has a shutout for the Padres. 2 outs. Gets to 89 pitches. Gets the hook. Next guy comes out of the pen and can't throw strikes. Walks a batter then hits the next guy.

Managers are so stupid. God forbid you let the kid finish the inning.

Well he got out of the inning. Still stupid though.

And Pagan blows it. I hate relievers.

Well, now more than ever managers are largely just agents for whatever the front office wants to do, so I'd probably place the blame higher. Either way, yes ultra conservative pitch limits seem stupid.

Is it though for a 20 year-old making his second big league start and his second start since 2019? I know he was with the taxi squad last year, but he only had 93 or so innings in 2019. Also Betts and Seager made loud outs in that sixth inning.

And can you blame them when the guy he replaced in the rotation just went down with Tommy John, they have several pitchers out for the same reason (Clevinger, Wingenter, Baez), and another was pulled yesterday early because of forearm tightness?

Wouldn't have mattered anyway if he got that final out since Pagan just blew the lead the following inning.

There's no way to defend it. He was at 89 pitches and 2 outs in the 6th, and it came close to backfiring on them. Tingler has mismanaged the pitching staff for most of the year.

I guess building up a pitcher coming out of the bullpen into the rotation isn't a thing with you guys then. If he had a been in the rotation to start the year then I wouldn't be trying to play devil's advocate. I hate seeing pitchers come out early around 90 pitches, but this isn't the situation for me to be upset about it.

                      4/3 3.0 IP in relief, 38 pitches
                      4/7 1.0 IP in relief, 11 pitches
                      4/10 2.0 IP in relief, 31 pitches
Gets swapped into the rotation after Morejon leaves early on 4/11.

4/16 3.2 IP in his first start of the year, 79 pitches (doubled his previous high this year)
4/22 5.2 IP in his second start, 89 pitches.

I don't think pitching to another batter would really be much of an increase in injury risk. It almost came back to bite them. Not to mention the bullpen is clearly burnt, see Kela going on the IL today. So taxing the relievers isn't really a solid option either.

Keep making excuses for Tingler's management of the pitching staff though.

Pretty terrible game between the Mets and Cubs last night. Marisnick leads off the 8th with a triple and the Cubs can’t get him in. Then the first pitch of the 10th is a wild pitch so the free runner advances to third with no outs and the Mets can’t get him in. Thankfully Jason Heyward ended this horrible display of baseball in the bottom of the 10th

Cardinals and Reds with a 3 game weekend series starting tonight in Busch.

A sweep would be really nice right about now.

Very boom or bust type offense in the past week or so. Either they get 3 or they get 15, no in between.
