Johan Santana signs a new 4 year contract

I'm hearing it's for around 40 mil. Very similar contract to what the Jays gave Doc after he won his CY.

I think it's a great deal for the Twins to buy out 2 of his of FA years. If this deal wasn't made, Johan would have hit the market after the Unit and Schilling retired. There would been a major bidding war for him that could have topped in the 14-15 mil range per season.

If the Brewers want to keep Sheets long term they better try to work something out soon because after 2 seasons from now, the Brewers will have virtually no chance of keeping him.

If Santana can perform for the next few years at even 80% of last years level, the Twins will have made a very shrewd business move.

Its good to see a small market team hang onto a high profile player. 10 mil a year for Santana is a bargain, assuming last year wasn't a fluke (and all indications are that it wasn't). With Schilling getting 12 a year, Pedro close 14, Johnson at 16, and Roger at 18, 10 million for last year's unanimous Cy Young looks like the cheap rack at Wal Mart.

He's ours. I am glad that we got this deal done so teams like the Yankees cant come in and buy him. I am a little sick of that happening though.
