As a matter of fact someone told me in Buster Olneys "The Last night of the Yankee Dynasty" he credits Chavy with giving adrenaline to the Yankees coming back on Oaktown in 2001 He says that Chavez was making dumb comments (literally dumb, not meaning insulting, just without thinking) about the Yankees time being over.
He was trying to say how great they were and what they accomplished, but by dropping the past tense on the Yanks they got pissed.
