Cubs with some decent starts from Steele and Smyly so far. Otherwise, starting pitching not good. We'll need much better from Stroman and Hendricks to have a watchable 2022.

Hunter Greene struck out Freddie Freeman but he reached base on a passed ball (to be clear it was indeed that and not a wild pitch). Later in the inning Freeman scored, yet Greene was charged with an earned run.

That doesn't sound right, does it?

EDIT: Never mind, MLB.com just changed it.

The strike accuracy in this game was.......bad

It was bad enough that Montoyo got ejected, and he's a guy who almost never gets ejected, coming in at a 1% ejection rate.

This is why I want partial robot umps.

The one constant in a strikezone based on the rules is the ball crossing the plate. That determines it its inside or outside, regardless of a guys height.

That's the one part of automated strikezones I've always wanted. Let the umps still call if it's high or low, since that is partially subjective, but inside and outside should be fixed.

I'm sure they could add a chip in home plate or something which will tell if the ball catches any part of it.

I'm so backwards on this that I want the strike zone turned off on the TV screen. Get that ish away from there. It's only making everybody an armchair umpire and is feeding the want/need for robot umps more.

Joey Votto got screwed out of a home run last night as he hooked one around the foul pole, but because it was so high over the pole, the umpires called it foul on the field and upheld the call on replay.

We have all this technology that tracks all these statistics around ball flight and trajectories, but MLB still refuses to use any of it, because MLB (and some of the purists) feel that we shouldn't take the "human element" out of the game.

Personally, I just want the correct call made.

I just don't get why they don't have a camera staring straight up the poles.

Or better yet, I don't know why we don't have something to roll two or three angles at once to "triangulate" the location of when it passes over the wall versus its position down the line. It seems obvious.

I'm stating this independent of ball tracking data. I don't know why these things aren't thought up.

I totally agree, although the scorecard that was posted above looked so bad that anyone who watched the game will probably have a legit gripe, but overall I’d love the zone graphic to go away

Surprisingly the Diamondbacks who will probably lose close to 100 games have a pretty good back end of their bullpen. I’d imagine they’ll be selling pretty early

Oh it was bad. I was watching that game yesterday, and nothing saves those calls.

Then again, Greg Maddux sometimes lived off calls like that.

One good and one bad from each. I think they'll finish out where they usually do. My children is whether the offense can keep it up. Can't expect Heyward and Happ to be this productive all year
