FWIW, Nightengale said the Cubs dropped out cause they "balked at" the asking price of 10 years $500M....which I find very hard to believe. There's no way they would remain in any sort of serious contention for this long if they weren't willing to meet that ask....that's been the baseline estimate through this whole process.

Don't think the Cubs end up getting him but Jed Hoyer pushed back on the report that they dropped out.
