Maybe he was gonna sign for the Jays price and Dodgers panicked and just offered 700m?

700m feels like a weird price to just sit on for a few days or longer and not accept.

You’re at 600 million already. What’s the difference you’ve already entered another stratosphere of money? Just do what Texas A&M football does and find another booster to off-set your ridiculous spending.
The cynical (and most likely) scenario is that Ohtani never had any intention to leave California, and the Dodgers' initial offer was in the $500M range. The Jays and others were used to drive up the price, nothing more.

Ohtani just broke The Show’s contract system.

I mean Scott Boras is his agent, and he's notorious for using such tactics to squeeze every dollar out of teams.

$700 million is an insane number even for a 'once in a lifetime' talent like Ohtani.

Ohtani isn't a Boras client. He's with Nez Balelo.

Still seems like that's what happened though

                    Oh ok. My mistake.

Must've confused him with someone else.

And, Boras or no, that's what agents are supposed to do. If the Dodgers couldn't afford this, they wouldn't have done it.

Hearing the A's offered the exact contract to Ohtani, except it was $1 a year over the next 700 million years.

Really starting to sound like CAA was intentionally leaking things to get the Dodgers to up their offer.

Apparently one of the big tweets that blew up came from an account which hasn't tweeted in years and only recently got deleted once people started linking that account to someone within CAA.

Could've been the same situation with Judge last year. An intentional leak saying he went to the Giants just to get the Yankees to offer more.
