    Re: 2023-2024 Hot Stove Thread

Jays, Dodgers, Rangers appear to be 3 of the teams more in the mix for Ohtani.

I do wonder what the reaction would be with Ohtani in Canada.

Kawasaki was apparently huge in Japan (and they even showed Jays games in Japan just featuring him). Ohtani is obviously already huge, but western Canada (Vancouver) especially the merch sales and traveling down for Seattle games and so on would be on another level (Vancouver is one of biggest markets in the world outside of Asia for the Asian demo).

Given Rogers owns the Jays and basically own half of Canada, a move which has such significance across the country could be another factor in them willing to spend the money to get him.

Let's save everyone the heartache, Glasnow is 29 and his career highest IP in a season is 120. He is great when healthy, but he never is healthy. Don't do it!

This one makes me curious. I feel like he ends up in the AL East one way or another.

Right, really thinking he winds up with Yankees.

That's my assumption as well. I would obviously love him in Boston, but I'm not sure if I'm cool giving up what it takes to land him.

                    Same.

My thought is he either ends up with the Yankees or stays put in San Diego.

I’m not sure it would take a lot as it’s only for a year.

I would assume two top 10 prospects and a 20-30s organization one as well from a team. Obviously that would look different with who is trading, but I think that'll end up what it looks like.

Asian yes, Japanese no. Vancouver's Asian population is overwhelmingly Chinese, Indian, and Filipino - can't imagine Ohtani on the Blue Jays is going to move the needle much here. And alas, the majority of the army of Western Canadians who deluge Seattle when the Jays visit don't seem to care much about baseball aside from that one weekend per season.
