I think that would’ve been used as more of a convenient excuse to deflect off of last night if they weren’t mediocre post ASB this year. They were just a 500 ballclub post ASB with some really bad stretches.
The previous 2 years, they were playing really well the last 2/3 of the season and had pretty good injury luck. This year, they still had pretty good luck but 2 of their better hitters against left handed pitching ( Bohm, Hays) got hurt and didn’t seem to find their stride after coming back. I think that was an issue given that their last 2 games were against lefties.
Oh well. I thought their best shot was last year to win it all so I am concerned that the window might have closed. However, each off-season springs new hope and optimism so we’ll see what changes it brings.
