Cutch back to the Pirates 1 year/5 mil. Happy that Cutch will probably retire a Pirate but Nutting is living up to his name.

                Teoscar back to LA.

Jays are literally going to do nothing else are they? I'd just fire the entire management if they don't get off to a hot start in the regular season.

I read the Jays had higher offers to Teoscar and Burnes.... Burnes chose Arizona because of taxes and wanted to stay in Arizona as wife just had twins.

Blue Jays offered 7 $250 for Burnes and he still went to AZ.

I mean, taxes in Canada are 33% plus Provincial Tax whereas Arizona is 2.5% when it comes to the Burnes deal, so I get that. Just based on Canadian taxes, not including provincial taxes, Burnes net in AZ is $199,875,000 whereas in Toronto it would be $167,500,000. SO really a no brainer there, he also has a home in AZ.

Teoscar was here and has a chance to win in LA for many year to come so, again, a no brainer.

I think the real problem is, what do the Jays have to offer any potential free agents. I mean we haven't even signed our BEST PLAYER to a long term deal so why would anyone want to come here? We have no loyalty to our players and this leadership team has done nothing good for Toronto. I guess we can play decent D, but that is not going to win you 95 games.

We sat on a hitting coach that was terrible for multiple years, we have one of the best pitching coaches in the Majors and yet we give him nothing but minor leaguers in his bullpen. Not to mention that we have a closer and yet let him walk because he had an injury filled year.

This management team is terrible and we need a complete rebuild. I hate that, but lets be real and just start from scratch again and use the assets that we have to help us along the way.

Do the taxes matter as much if the guys don't even live here?

Or go the Dodgers route and defer the payments?

Or do what the Leafs do and offer a major signing bonus (if that's a thing in MLB) so guys get paid the lumpsum on a specific day every year, so they'd be taxed based on their home taxes and not their playing city one.

Either way, it's possible for teams to get creative when it comes to things like that, especially when its a multi billion dollar ownership group who clearly will know how to cheat the system and find loopholes.

I am mystified by Jays management. No idea how you can make offers to the most expensive free agents ever in Ohtani and Soto but can't sign Vlad to a long term deal. It should have been done at least a couple of years ago.

They couldn't even agree on a one-year deal last year and lost the arbitration case which gives you an idea how much they value him. I think free agents see the losing record and the lack of stability going forward and that impacts their desire to sign here. I remember during the glory years when top free agents would sign here when the team was a contender.

At this point, my expectation is that they don't get a long term deal done and they don't trade him and he walks for nothing at the end of the 2025 season. Hope I'm wrong but that's my level of confidence.

To be fair, Vlad has been a little bit inconsistent year over year (never bad by any means), so its easy to see why theres some separation on an extension.

He has had 2 elite years ('21 and '24), and everything else has been good, but not quite what you would want from a guy getting $300M+. I've also seen some rumors that an extension would be in the $400M - $500M range which I would be hesitant to give a bat only 1B who has a fair bit of variability in his annual production
