I'd rank this duo as good as anyone. Ask the Yanks, and Giants in 2001.

Wetteland/Rivera is my all time favorite.

Trevor Hoffman and anyone is my homer pick.

I remebr Lee Smith in the latter days of his career with the Angels for a few seasons.

        1) I would say the Nasty Boys was a good combination in the early 90's
        2) Rivera and Wettland were killer
        3) Frankie/Percy were pretty good for the short stint they had
        4) Mota/Gagne although short lived might have produced a good 1-2 punch for a few years the same as Frankie/Percy

Props to my boys Percy and K-Rod. Too bad Percy left . The one with Gagne and Mota was a pretty good one but the trio of Dibble, Charlton, and Myers was just downright intimidating.

Re: Best setup/closer tandem you've ever seen?

Alot of people are forgetting the team that some say implemented the use of the bullpen the way it is used today: The Oakland A's of the late 80's and early 90's.

I don't know if I've ever seen an entire bullpen as a unit that good. If I had to pick a set-up man to go along with Eck then I'd say Rick Honeycutt.

                    My list:

                    1a. Wetteland/Rivera
                    1b. Eckersley/Honeycutt
                    2. Dibble/Myers (2/3 of the Nasty Boys)
                    3. Rodriguez/Percival

                    Here's a snapshot of the 1990 Oakland A's bullpen:

Not one of them with an ERA over 3.00 in the American League. I can remember watching those A's games on TV and in person and being in total awe of how dominant a club they truly were. That is what makes the Gibson HR, the subsequent Dodger's victory, and the Reds sweep of '90 so amazing.

                            Honeycutt/Eck, hands down.
There are others since that have been aweomse, but these guys were the original real deal.

Also, Randy Myers/whoever was setup when he was with the Cubs. Man, I watched alot of Cubs games then, I was younger and had nothing but time to kill, and Randy Myers shut guys down like a madman.
