The A's have a club option for 2009. Probably a similar deal to what the A's gave Hudson, Zito, and Mulder. I think it's a smart move to buy out the arbritation years for Harden.

But sometimes the long term deals don't always work out. The Jays signed Hinske to a 5 year deal after he won ROTY and he's been robbing the Jays ever since the ink dried on that contract.

Good move for the A's, Harden should be solid for years to come.

So more then likely in 4 years (if he develops) he'll be gone since the A's won't be able to afford his contract.

That probably won't be true by the time his contract expires. The A's now have the 3rd richest ownership in the league. In 4 years time, they will most likely have a concrete plan for a new stadium/most likely to have already started construction.
