    Question on Pitches & Catchers...

Whats up guys, I was checkin out the Yanks and Sox game yeterday, and they were talking about how Tim Wakefield had his own personal catcher in Doug Mirabelli. My question is...Could you guys name some other pitchers that have their "Own" catcher, that catches everytime they pitch.

    Thanks

if i remember, Greg Maddux had his own catcher... but that was more for giving Javy Lopez a rest more so than the backup being a better reciever.

Was it? I always thought he used Eddie Perez because he called a better game for him.

I'm sure there are other examples of personal catchers for recent pitchers but I'm drawing a blank at the moment.

Bartolo Colon had Jose Molina instead of Bengie last year, but I think that with a healthy Bengie, that's going to change.

I forget who it is/was, but I believe that when Santiago was on the Giants, Rueter (or somebody) would have Torrealba catch.

Roy Halladay used Alberto Castillo for a year or so. I know for a fact that Roger Clemens liked having Charlie O'brien behind the plate as well.

I remember people thinking that it had to do with gamecalling, but after Lopez signed with the O's, most people in the Braves organization (including Lopez himself, Maddux, and Bobby Cox) said that in order to give Lopez a regular rest cycle, the backup would catch Maddux. The whole "better gamecalling" idea was a myth.

i've heard the Lopez/Perez stories too.. i thought there was a (public) story that came out where Maddux didnt like Lopez's defense & gamecalling...
