    Proof Point #122

Why many Red Sox fans show no class:

Point #122: Taking a shot at Sheffield when he's trying to field the ball.

(Notice I said many not all Red Sox fans show no class)

Its unbelievable. For the last 5 years... the Sox throw at our hitters (many more times than the Yanks have hit them... I'll get the numbers if anyone actually needs them )... their fans come into our bullpen... they chant curses at us.... and they just generally act like idiots.

I seriously dislike stupid Sox fans like this.

Just saw this. Terrable. Gary showed serious restraint from hitting him. That bum should never be allowed in Fenway again.

This is about stupid fans, not just stupid Sox fans. Dude swipes at Sheffs head and hits in the face and then the other jerk throws his beer at him and acts surprised. I hope those two guys are never let into another Sox game the rest of their lives.

Apparently you don't remember the riot police on the field at Yankee stadium during the ALCS. There are stupid fans everywhere.

Also, the bullpen incident was a Red Sox employee who was assaulted by Yankee players, not a fan.

That was a dark moment for Yanks fans but at least it wasn't towards the other team.. it was frustration out of blowing the series.

The lawsuit was never settled... from what I've read .... many say that the employee spit on Nelson and then verbally abused him and then went after him and the minority think that Nelson went after him unprovoked.

Sheffield wasn't in the wrong, he didn't do anything.

Just a dumb fan interfering. Hard to tell exactly what he was trying to do.

With short fences like that, and the fans right up against it, there isn't really much you can do to stop things like that from happening.

I don't know why fans choose to reach over the wall and interfere with plays, when that's going to get you thrown out for a worthless baseball, but there are a lot of stupid people out there.

On NESN the theory put out was that the fan was gesturing to clear the other fans away from the ball. Its hard to fault Sheffield for reacting to being raked across the face suddenly but at the same time, people act like the fan stabbed him with a knife. Hell pay a hefty fine which is appropriate and that should be it.
