    Luis Gonzalez on roids?

I'm watching Outside The Lines right now, and they mentioned Luis Gonzalez's killer season the year they won the WS, in which he hit 57 hrs.

Now he hasn't come close to that since, never even broken the 40 HR total before or after.

Anyone think he was on roids? I know this is really vague, not a whole lot of evidence, but just came to mind.

Plus if you guys think of any other similar cases, feel free to post them.

I just assume everybody's on roids, but definitely in this case. Guys like Luis Gonzalez and Brady Anderson do not hit 50 HR's.

      Similar case: Brady Anderson

I don't know if either of them were on steroids but the suspicion is certainly there.

A naturally gifted hitter having one breakout season then going back to normal does not a steroids case make. I might be wrong, but I think hes always been a good average hitter. If thats the case, then being on fire and lucky can happen.

The one season of being good powerwise doesnt make me flinch, I guess.

          yeah, I forgot about Brady

Probably the main reason Luis has been able to slip by unscathed or unquestioned is because of his physique.

Headhunting for the ripped guys is probably letting alot of other guys get off the hook

He had a steady incline of HRs, but the year he started hitting HRs was the year his doubles dipped....

Edit: this looks like a mess towards the averages end

I disagree, sometimes guys just have great years - Roger Maris only hit over 30 HRs three times; aside from '61 the most he had was 39 in one year. At the start of his career Reggie Jackson went from 29 to 47 to 23. Joe DiMaggio had a career high of 46 and only once besides that hit more than 32.

There are other cases too, but historically it happens. Were these guys [Anderson and Gonzo] on 'roids? Maybe...but I don't think those stats alone are proof.

Don't even try to mention that anyone on the D-Backs could be on the juice to the local hacks on 910 AM. Wouldn't even let me on the air, but they had no problem ripping players on other teams when they have no idea just who is.
