that is a good idea, I doubt it will ever pass but it is a good solution.

I bet the Rockies themselves are begging for that.

Stupid idea. So what's the solution for parks such as PetCo and Dodger stadium that are a hitter's nightmare? Allow DH's in those parks?

This appears to be something just to soothe the ego's of pitchers that see their ERA's rise while in Colorado.

If anything I'd like to see a study done of average number of pitches thrown per game by each team at Colorado and compare that to the averages of other ballparks. Then make a judgement on pitcher's fatigue there.

Petco is perfectly fine for players that don't let it get to their heads. Just ask the 2004 Cubs when they had a 3 game series here... or the Devil Rays, or Blue Jays, or even the Rockies.

If you really want, I could do that, it might take me a few days, but it would be pretty easy.

I will say this, quick look at MLB.com and out of the 19 pitchers they have their that have thrown at Coors this year, all but 3 have a P/IP of over the MLB average of 15-16.

More stats. Out of the 219 players that MLB.com shows pitched at Coors last year, only 80 have a P/IP of less then 16 and only 59 have a P/IP of less then 15. 79 pitchers have a P/IP of over 19, and 64 of over 20.

Take this how you will. But it would seem pitchers throw more pitches at Coors, not many, but more.

Ahh....so with that argument then I could say to ask all of the pitchers that have been successful at Colorado the same thing.

                Whatever.

Let's destroy the stadium instead and contract two teams.

I don't like it, it seems silly to me to change the rules just for the one stadium. Teams have to deal with the pros and cons of playing in their particular stadium and city all the time.

Re: Designated Pitcher at Coors Field

Its not the stadium, it's the fact Denver is a mile high thus balls travel longer in air, drop more suddenly and breaking pitches dont break as much as they would on normal altitude thus theres far more stress on pitching and defense is harder as well.

The solution proposed here isnt new by the way, already a few years ago Baseball Prospectus proposed that the Rockies should be allowed an extra pitcher and that the visiting teams should be allowed to bring an extra one as well.

Stupid idea that will never fly.

If we are going to add Mickey Mouse rules, I say lets add a rule where Bonds can't be intentionally walked more than once per game.

Or better yet let's give the D-Rays and Royals 4 outs per inning when they're up to bat.

Didn't Nomo throw a no hitter at coors. Also Colorado made it into the playoffs when they had Walker, Bichette and Burks in the outfield and I believe they lost to the Braves in the playoffs or was it the dodgers. What they need is some big hard plus 90 throwers like the Marlins have instead of the breaking ball/location pitchers they have been trying to win with.

Thats the Rockies problem... all teams have to compensate for a ballpark with certain players...

Yankees would be stupid not to pack on Lefty Pull Hitters with that short porch in right... Boston would reap doubles all day, with linedriving righties... and the Rockies have to do the same... they have the wrong type of players playing at that ballpark.
