Can Philly get the A's back?

I'm dead serious. At least I could trust them in getting better. The Phillies, on the other hand....wow.

The losingest franchise in sports history seems to like continuing the tradition. Yes, the payroll is over 90 million. So what? For the past 4 years (and more than that, but starting with the Bowa era), this team cannot hit with men on base. Why is this such a problem to solve? Everyone and their momma could tell you this team strikes out entirely too much and is horrible with men on base. It's like when a Phillies player sees a man on 2nd or 3rd, he goes into "Duh" mode.

Thome is getting on my nerves. I want to like Burrell. He's doing good this season so far. But Thome, Abreu, Lieberthal and some of these other guys get on my damn nerves. Rollins is great. Lofton is doing good for what he is. Chase Utley, who seems to make things happen every time he plays, can't start because Placido Polanco is starting at second for whatever reason. Everyone else I'm sick of. The Phils need players that can consistently put the ball in play and can score runs. I'm tired of Rollins and Lofton getting on base every time and then....fart....that's it. They're left on base.

I won't even touch the pitching staff. Thank goodness for Lieber, though.

See, this is why I kept telling people that is was never Larry Bowa's fault. He wasn't the greatest manager, but he was good. But he was given a team that can't do sh*t. A bunch of whiny children that bitch and moaned because Bowa wanted to light a fire up their asses. They get him gone and bring in Mr. Happy Day Care, Charlie Manuel. I like the guy and I think he's a good manager as well. But his players are not working for him, either.

This has to fall all on the owners and GM Ed Wade. No GM that has fielded teams like this has ever stayed on this long. But Wade seems to have this invincibility. I will give the owners SOME credit. They gave Wade the green light to spend 95 million. I will give them that. But it's also their job to rid of soemone that is not doing the job.

Ed Wade is a terrible TERRIBLE general manager and if he isn't gone after this season or even during this season....I think this city will forever forget the Phillies.

I'll gladly welcome Abreu on the Jays, Red Sox, or Yanks.

I do agree Utley should be starting at 2B.

It's a long season though, no reason to get down right now unless you're a Rockie or Royals fan.

Floyd = sent down to minors after pitching 14 innings accumulating a 14.14ERA and a 1:3 K/BB ratio

                Yeah, that's nice isn't it?

                I swear...this franchise.

Myers is looking ok so far. But it means nothing when they cannot generate runs.

CaseyD, I've been a Suns fan since I can remember (I'm 17 years old). I remember when Paxson hit that 3, I started crying in front of my TV. I must've been 5 and a half at that time.

                      Suns fan for life, here....

The Phillies should make some drastic changes. Trade Abreu and Polanco for some pitching and replace them with Utley and an outfielder who can just make contact and play D. If Thome and Burrel swing the bats they way they are capable with Rollins and Utley in there they'll be fine on offense. They don't have a true ace in their rotation and they need a bat in the middle of the lineup that won't swing and miss half the time. And any guy they put in there will get a boost at that ballpark.

I'm rooting for the Suns only because of Nash

One of the nicest athletes I've ever met in my life.

Jayson Stark sums it up best.....

I just read that column by Stark. I didn't realize the Phils had so many people locked up beyond this year. Normally thats a good thing but that kind of sucks for them because they could use some changes.
