Why are baseball stadiums so big?
This is something I've been wondering. I've never seen any stadium anywhere near full to capacity and in some stadiums the higher seats aren't used at all. Why are the stadiums being built so big and with so many seats when they are rarely used?Originally posted by BlzerLet me assure you that I am a huge proponent of size, and it greatly matters. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)Tags: None -

They get used during playoff time tho
I would prefer more intimate seating nothing more then 35K in a stadium. That's just me tho.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Fenway is about 35k and sells out every day. Perfect size for a ballpark IMO.Comment

SBC Park fits about 40k and they sell out every game. It's pretty cool when you got 40,000 Giants fans on their feet after a splash hit.Comment

Actually, most of the newer stadiums are smaller compared to the previous parks. I know for a fact that Baltimore and Atlanta both went down at least 10,000 in capacity when their new parks opened in the 90's. The ideal capacity should be between 35-40k.Comment

Re: Why are baseball stadiums so big?
The proposed twins stadium would seat 42,000. Far more than the twins average attendance. I suppose the playoffs do sell out though. Watching the royals game last night and there couldn't have been more than 15,000 there in KC.Comment

Re: Why are baseball stadiums so big?
Yeah Wrigley is always sold out. But what I want to know is how come even for playoff games I see nothing but empty seats in the NBA? I'm sure not all stadiums, but I saw some of the Heat game the other night....where is everyone? Don't you people know you have a 1 seed?PSN: JISTIC_OS

Re: Why are baseball stadiums so big?
Originally posted by joebooYep. Almost all new stadiums are smaller and more intimate. Three Rivers Stadium was 55,000+ and PNC is 35,000 or so. Although to fill PNC on most nights, the stadium would have to be 17,000 seats.
Maybe they should just run him out there everydayComment

Where I am the Halos and the Dodgers both set their attendence records last season so its always packed. Ticket prices and food prices are getting rediculous now a days also.
By the way, I went to an Angel game when they played the Indians and there were 37,000 at the game, and it was a game during the middle of the week. On weekends they get around 42,000.Angels World Series Championships : 2002
