    Statistical Question

Has their been any research or study on what the average innings pitched by a starter in games that their respective team won?

Obviously I'm not questioning if a pitcher throws alot of innings in one game, does that mean he's doing good or if his team is winning. But more a less a question of bullpen vs. starters and which are more important in the long run that is the MLB season.

    Re: Statistical Question

I'm sure there has been some research on that. Elias Sports Bureau or STATS Inc might have that info. And, if Bill James still put out his abstract (I don't think he does anymore) it would probably be in there as well. I'd be interested in seeing the results.
    MLB: Cincinnati Reds
    NFL: Cincinnati Bengals
    NCAA Hoops: Xavier Musketeers
    NCAA Football: Miami Hurricanes
    NHL: Calgary Flames

      Re: Statistical Question

I don't believe Bill James is still doing his Abstract series, but he did come out with some handbook this past November that I want to pick up.

It's mostly just stats of this past season in baseball, and a more refined version on his formula of predicting how many runs each team will score based on past results.

I haven't looked in to the Elias Sports Bureau too much though so they might have some information on it.
