    Homers down almost 9%

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2056628

I still don't think this data says anything about steroid use, but ESPN is reporting it as if it does. If you look back over the last few years, the numbers fluctuate greatly in April. I think this has a lot to do with the weather. A colder April on the East Coast usually means less HR's. If will be interesting to see if this trend continues over the course of the season.

Yeah I saw this and chuckled a little. Let's see how production is by August. I'd be really surprised if the decrease in HRs is that close to 10% by the end of the year.

Agreed. Cold weather = less dingers. Just wait till we have a full week of 80 degree weather.

I'm just waiting for Brian Roberts to test positive.

That plays a role. The past three years (02-04) Bonds hit at total of 26 HRs in April. Plus, as has been mentioned, the weather on the east hasn't been hitter friendly.

As mentioned in the Daily Quickie on ESPN.com, HR totals at their lowest total since 2002. If you blame this years slump on the steriod thing, how do you explain the slump in 2002? You can't call the 2002 HR total a fluke and claim this years is because of steriods. Well I guess you could, but that kind of selective fact using is never good for making a point.

ESPN specializes in that. Always trying to create a controversy if they've grown tired of whatever the current one happens to be.

Well I took my whole argument from the ESPN article, so at least that one person is against selective fact usage.

Odd, but Klesko's and Nevin's home runs are up.

Let's see... Barry Bonds out = 5% less home runs AT LEAST.

That, and recall those that last year had their career years, and aren't doing much at all. Think Kevin Millar, Adrian Beltre, Carlos Beltran, Gary Sheffield, and even J.D. Drew. There are quite a few that are definitely underperforming as of now.

Don't think it's because of steroids. In the end, everything's just a coincidence.

Oh yeah, Loretta and Greene haven't hit a homer, so that can count for nearly 1% of the league total... well, .5 actually.
