Tony Pena resigns as Royals Manager

The Royals have the worst record in Baseball this season (8-25)

Former AL manager of the year Tony Pena resigned Tuesday after the Royals fell to a major league-worst 8-25. The team said bench coach Bob Schaefer will take over on an interim basis.

I don't blame him whatsoever. I can't believe he even made it this far. Hopefully he has some sanity left.

      I don't blame him.

He's a very good teacher of the game but when you have such a light hitting lineup and guys who are raw then things will always be bad.

I really felt sorry for Zack Grienke last night. This kid has ace stuff and he's stuck on a team that can't score runs for him. During the game they showed a stat that his run support is 0.56 (of course it's lower after this start) This kid shouldn't have to try to pitch lights out just to get a run. I have a feeling that if he's traded or becomes a FA he'll "surprise" a lot of ppl with his stuff.

I feel the same way about Greinke. The kid is an ace, too bad his lineup sucks.

I'm not surprised at all that Pena finally dropped the project.. his first season was great, but we all knew they wouldn't do that again.

At least he got to resign instead of being fired, which would have happened sometime this year.

The Royals are a joke. They rebuild every year...I laugh at these owners or GM's who provide nothing for coaches to work with in terms of talent, but always expect them to perform miracles with below average talent clubs.

Indeed. Everytime I become depressed about the Pirates, I just look at the Royals.

Rumour has it that the great Frank White will take over the duties as Royals manager. He's apparently the AA manager but I don't know how long he's been doing that.

Doesn't matter if they hired the second coming of Casey Stengel; that bunch is still going nowhere.
