Good win tonight. Kawakami was solid and the bullpen pitched a scoreless 7th, 8th, and 9th. Moylan struck out the side in the 7th and Gonzo got 2 Ks in the 9th for the save. I can't believe some of you guys are already trashing the bullpen when were only 5 games into the season with 157 to go. All bullpens struggle on occasion and eventually bounce back just like we did tonight.

When you walk in 4 runs and hit a batter in one inning, you deserve every bit of trashing. Even if it was game one of the season. About tonight's game, good game and good win. Chance for the sweep tomorrow.

I agree and just for the record I wasn't referring to that nightmare game in Phily. I was just trying to make a point that it's way to early to talk about trading such and such for bullpen help or saying this player should or should not be closing because of one bad game.

Gonzo looked like garbage in the save. He left the ball over the plate belt high at least once to each batter. If he had been facing lefties or a good hitting team, I don't know if the 2 run lead would have been enough. He also looked like he was going to fall over after every pitch.

When did he get this crazy windup? I don't remember him doing it before, but I guess I could have forgotten.

He reminding me of Rocker way too much.

Eww...the Rocker comparison made me shudder. If Gonzo doesn't try to strikeout everyone & nibble at the corners he'll do fine - I think what Esky told him when he threw his first couple of pitches outside is just to let his defense work for him. No runs given up in 3+ innings is a Godsend compared to the past couple of games.

5-1 after 6 is fine, I'll take it. Now time to match up against FLA who are playing good baseball right now.

Glavine left the ML game with soreness or something, going to be evaluated tomorrow.

We hit well today. Pitching is a concern but winning makes me feel good. Go Braves!

Nice start to the season at 5-1. Bullpen is obviously the biggest concern right now. Day off, and then the Fish come to town. Already a big series this early in the year.

I'm guessing either Jo-Jo or Morton will get the 5th spot if Glavine has to spend any time on the DL. As much as I want the Hanson era to begin in Altlanta, it would probably be best for everyone if he isn't called up until June.

Glavine needs to hang it up. It'd be better for him and the Braves if he did.

Bama, as much as I hate to say it, I think that you're right.

To the one guy who was saying I shouldn't be talking about trading such for such, I mentioned a minor leaguer that's in a crowded outfield and we are really weak in the bullpen even in the minor leagues, so yes we do need to make a deal somewhere down the line for some bullpen depth.

You actually think that the weak bullpen is going to hold up all year?

Only if our starters actually get deeper into ball games. Granted it's only like 6 games, but only Lowe has gotten further than the 7th inning.

Exactly. When our starters don't go deep, the bullpen is going to make us lose a ton of games. I'm not basing this pediction on performance but instead on the lack of depth overall, especially in the lefty department. That is why I stated a perhaps trade earlier on.

There are no lefties to begin with. Gonzo is actually better at getting righties out. If he is facing lefties with a 1 run lead, its almost a guarantee that he will blow the save.
