I totally agree with you. Apparently we are still just waiting for Ohman. According to what I read a couple days ago the Braves still have the best offer on the table for him.

    January 16th
Zrebiec also learned from Odle that the Orioles remain interested in Will Ohman, as are the Braves, D'Backs, Indians, and Rangers. Ohman has two offers in hand, but not from the O's.

I know this may be a silly question, but oh well...

I keep looking at the Braves schedule and it doesn't make much sense as to announce when their official opening day game is. Can anybody inform me when their first regular season game will take place?

I think the Braves are getting the Sunday night ESPN opener again this year.

          That would be nice!

It seems like 10 years have gone by since I have seem them play. Them not making the playoffs last year was a killer. Oh well, lets go 09 Braves!

The official website of the Atlanta Braves with the most up-to-date information on news, tickets, schedule, stadium, roster, rumors, scores, and stats.

Looks like Glavine is healthy. I think Wren should focus on signing him and finding a lefty for the bullpen with the remaining funds. I say forget about acquiring an outfielder for now and start Josh Anderson in center while platooning Diaz and Blanco in left. I like the idea of having Josh Anderson play center and bat leadoff because the guy can flat out run and has the potential to steal a ton of bases. Just think about all the RBI opportunities Chipper would get if Anderson could get on base and steal second on a regular basis. That in itself would make up for the lack of a power bat plus the Braves have always had a pitching first mindset so why change that now.

Looking at the team right now, I'm pretty happy with my pitchers. McDowell has some talent and I believe if he can keep them all healthy (especially the bullpen) we could be top 5 ERA.

Starting pitching seems like the strong suit of the whole team as Huddy & JJ should be our #s 1-2, with Lowe and Vazquez in the middle and the import filling the back end with either Jo-Jo, Charlie Morton or most likely Campillo as the back-fill (although I don't think Campillo will have nearly as much of a successful season as he had last year).

Bullpen seems solid at the end (again assuming all will be healthy) as Gonzalez closes and Soriano & Moylan set-up. But if our starters can't go deep in the game like last year we'll get beat up...Boyer and Bennett are average at best although Acosta does have potential to blossom this year.

What are you talking about with Huddy? He's not going to be back till August at the earliest. And Boyer is better than average. Just ask John Smoltz.

We can't assume Hudson will be back at all this year, and judging from last year, we can't assume that ANY of our starters would remain healthy.

Remember how sick our starting rotation was at the beginning of the year last year? Injuries dropped 4 out of 5 of these guys.

I know Tim reported with the pitchers at the Braves camp, I thought he'd be ready? That's quite discouraging. If Huddy would've lasted all last season and actually get some run support, I think he woulda won the Cy Young...

Why, what did Smoltz say about Boyer? I mean I don't trust Boyer as far as I could spit - he'd string together some good outings to merit a chance to work the 8th or 9th then would blow up. As an aside, I can't even bear the thought of seeing Smoltzie in a BoSox uni...I never woulda dreamed it'd happen

I'm not sure what Smoltz has said about Boyer but he did work out with Smoltz during the offseason. Apparently he's in great shape.

Anybody know what the deal is with Mike Hampton? I wanna say they re-signed him. Any news on his injuries? If they did re-sign him, I wish they would have let him go and kept Smoltz. Hampton will probably pitch one game and be out for the season...

I agree about Hudson and the Cy Young. He was my pick for Cy Young before the season started too.

But back to Boyer. Smoltz has said everytime asked about him that he has an arm from God and that pitchers die dreaming of having an arm like that and once he learns out to use it poperly he is going to be dominate.

That's the reason Boyer spent the off-season working out with Smoltz and he said he's in the best shape of his life and that last year especially after the 2nd half he had lost his confident and was tired.

The only problem other than the endurance problem he had was that in his delivery he sometimes leans back to far and it causes his arm to drag behind and as a result he leaves pitches up in the zone and gets hammered.

Also he is still learning how to be a pitcher. He didn't become a pitcher till his Senior year of high school and he basically missed all of 2006. It's amazing how people forget what he did in 2005.
