    2009 Oakland A's thread

I know there are quite a few other A's fans here and I apologize if this has been started already (ran a search and couldn't find it).

Being a PA resident and an A's fan makes it difficult to converse with other A's fans.

How do you guys think the A's will use Giambi. He is too good to not be an everyday player, but I think he is a below average everyday first baseman (yes i know he came into the league as a 3b, but his skills have diminished over the years), and Cust is too good of a DH to replace him with Giambi on a regular basis.

Either way, I am looking forward to this season more so than any in the past couple years (As much as I hated giving up Gonzalez, I like the potential upside of the Holliday trade)...I would just like to see them get one more veteran pitcher, and I would also love to see them give Mulder a chance at a comeback with the A's.

I know there are a couple A's fans out there...keep this thread going!

    Re: 2009 Oakland A's thread

I'm excited for this year. It's gonna be cool to see Giambi in an A's uniform again, I've been booing him at the coliseum the last 6 years, but I know he will make the A's a better team. The problem with putting Cust at DH is his offensive numbers are WAY better when he plays the field, I think there's a .060 difference in batting average between the two. Plus, Daric Barton is a terrible defender at first as well (even though Bob Geren seems to think the opposite).

Still think we need a new SS, Crosby couldn't hit above .250 in Little League. I've been hoping for Tejada, but I know it's not gonna happen. I really don't understand why they didn't pursue Eckstein though, he would have been a perfect fit. Here's to hoping for a good season..and not having half the team traded away by the all-star break.

Im liking the rumors about us looking at Nomar to backup third and first, maybe play a little ss.

I think that would be a great pickup.

How do you guys feel about Cabrerra? For awhile a really wanted him to sign, but hearing some reports on Crosby and how he handled the whole situation, I would love to see him get another shot.

I'm also hoping that the A's give Mulder a shot. It would be a great opportunity for him to regain his career.

          Frustrating game to start.

Braden had a nice line, but he didn't locate very well and the Angel hitters let him get away with a lot.

I'm excited to see the young guys pitch the next couple days but the bats need to wake up. They looked a little rusty at the plate tonight, a lot of real long swings.

The A's are my AL team (Nats fan full-time) because of a family friend from Oakland...I think the team could be pretty good this year. I love the pitching.
